Falls Bridge on track for summer 2024 opening

Falls Bridge Road was closed temporarily in early August so that bridge beams could be installed. The beams will enable the laying of the deck this month and the eventual opening of the permanent bridge in June 2024.

Following August’s closure, the Falls Bridge Reconstruction Project is on track for completion in June of 2024. According to John Knowles, Maine Department of Transportation Resident Engineer, prime contractor Cianbro “was successful in completing the installation of all Precast Bridge Girders and Approach Span Beams.”

“This puts them on schedule to place the deck in September,” Knowles said. “The project is going very well from a financial and schedule standpoint, with no changes to speak of.”

While there are no dates yet set for future closings of Route 175, Knowles said another scheduled closure in 2024 is likely due to “other project related tasks,” namely the removal of the temporary bridge.
