Sedgwick mill rate drops for 2021
by Jeffrey B. Roth
When 2021 property tax bills arrive in Sedgwick mailboxes, home owners, on average, will be paying $40 to $75 less than they did in 2020.
The Sedgwick select board, on July 8, voted unanimously to reduce the 2020 mill rate of 13.56 to 13.15 for 2021. The rate change is a $0.41 reduction per $1,000 of assessed property value.
Chairman Ben Astbury said that in 2020, new construction added $3.3 million of initial assessment to the town’s tax revenue. He noted that despite the economic challenges posed by the pandemic during 2020, the town was able to “come under budget and be able to lower the taxes.”
