An April 29 recount of the April 23 Surry election results has confirmed victories for Chris Stark as selectman and Kerry McKim as school board member. The original tallies were confirmed.

The recounts were requested by Reginald “Reggie” Dale Winslow Jr., who lost the race to Stark by an aggregate total of 14 votes; and, Kristen McFarland, who lost the contest to McKim by a total of eight votes.

“I am really grateful for the diversity of Surry residents who supported me by making signs, driving me door-to-door and sharing so much perspective and experience,” Stark said. “I look forward to working with our wonderful town office staff and the select board in serving all of Surry’s residents. I have a lot to learn and look forward to the challenge.”

McKim said, “Thank you to all the voters, candidates and polling staff for participating in this election. It is an honor to be elected to the school board. I look forward to working with the School Board, parents, teachers, staff, students and the community as a whole.”
