The Eagles cross country team continued their standout season by racing to a second (boys) and third (girls) place finish in the Eastern Class C regional cross country championships on October 26 at Belfast.
“The boys brought home heavy hardware,” said Coach Erich Reed. It was GSA’s best finish since 1999. The Eagles finished less than two minutes behind winner Orono.
Freshman John Hassett continued his stellar season with a second place finish at 17:24.16, with sophomore Devlin Valle nabbed eighth at 18:10.55. Tate Yoder finished in the top 20 at 18:57.91.
The Lady Eagles finished third out of eight teams, behind first-place Orono and Washburn. Sophomore Hanna Gutow placed 15th at 22:06.85, with sophomore Rachel DesFosses at 17th (22:12.73).
“The girls pack was remarkable,” said Reed. “Just 43 seconds separated our first and fifth girls…No other team in any of the races at Belfast ran as closely by time.”
The top runners race in the state championships on Saturday, November 2, in Cumberland.
