DISHS Fall sports awards
by Jack Scott
The fall sports awards were handed out recently. With the weather still so warm, it is hard to believe that winter sports have started in an unorganized fashion already.
Golf coach Terry Siebert handed out the following awards: Sam Grindle got Lowest Match Score, Lowest Average Score, and Penobscot Valley Conference Medalist Awards; Alec Eaton got Most Improved, and David McManus got Most Improved Player. Both Sam Grindle and Connor Morey made the Penobscot Valley Conference Class C All Star team.
Girls soccer coach Dennis Rollins handed out the following awards: Chelsea Brown, Most Valuable Player Award; Julie Hutchins, Coach’s Award; and Janelle Ciomei, High Scorer Award. Chelsea Brown, Janelle Ciomei, and Paige Rollins were voted in the PVC Class D All Star team. I felt we got snubbed by the Coaches’ Class D All Star team as only County players were picked, despite the fact that Janelle Ciomei scored 14 goals this season. Esther Adams and Emily Cormier made the PVC Conference Class D All Academic soccer team.
Boy’ soccer coach Bennett Morey handed out the following awards: Curtis Farrin, Defense Award; Nathan Davis, Offense Award; Matt Duddy, Rookie of the Year; Kevin Melanio, Coach’s Award; Patrick Duddy; Coach’s Award; Hayden Ciomei, Co-MVP Award; and Jake Starkey, Co- MVP Award. Hayden Ciomei and Kevin Melanio were also named to the PVC Class D All Star team.
