Please take notice that the Town of Stonington, P.O. Box 9, 32 Main Street, Stonington, Maine 04681 is intending to file a Natural Resources Protection Act Tier 3 permit application with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection pursuant to the provisions of 38 M.R.S.A.§§ 480-A thru 480-BB on or about February 5, 2016. The application is for the reconstruction of a granite retaining wall, the approximate length of 265’ in Stonington Harbor utilizing existing granite blocks and granite rubble. The project will impact approximately 2,400 sq. ft. of intertidal area. A request for a public hearing or a request that the Board of Environmental Protection assume jurisdiction over this application must be received by the Department in writing, no later than 20 days after the application is found by the Department to be complete and is accepted for processing. A public hearing may or may not be held at the discretion of the commissioner or Board of Environmental Protection. Public comment on the application will be accepted throughout the processing of the application. The application will be filed for public inspection at the Department of Environmental Protection’s office in Bangor during normal working hours. A copy of the application may also be seen at the municipal office in Stonington, Maine. Written public comments may be sent to the regional office in Bangor where the application is filed for public inspection: MDEP, Eastern Maine Regional Office, 106 Hogan Road, Bangor, Maine 04401.

Notice is hereby given that absentee ballots for the March 7, 2016, Deer Isle-Stonington CSD school committee elections will be available at the Town Offices of Deer Isle and Stonington on February 5th during the posted office hours. Two (2) three-year terms will be filled by this election.

There will be a special meeting of the Blue Hill School Committee on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 5 p.m. at the Blue Hill Consolidated School to discuss the 2016-2017 budget.

Dog Registrations: 2016 dog registrations are now past due. Please bring in proof of rabies vaccination. Cost is $6 for a spayed/neutered dog and $11 for a non-spayed/non-neutered dog by January 31st. A $25 late fee will be applied to the registration fee if done after January 31.

The Town of Stonington will hold a Public Hearing on February 22, 2016 at 7:00 PM, at the Stonington Town Office to discuss an application being submitted to the State of Maine CDBG program for a Public Infrastructure Grant. The purpose of the grant application is to fund replacement of the water line on Main Street and North Main Street between Robbins Street to the end of the service area on North Main Street. Public comments will be solicited at this Hearing and will be submitted as part of the application. The Town is requesting a $1,000,000 grant to complete this water main and service replacement work. All persons wishing to make comments or ask questions about the grant application are invited to attend this Public Hearing.
