Penobscot Bay Press is a family-owned news and community information services provider, based in Stonington, Maine, with a second office in Blue Hill, Maine, with a local focus on our communities. We have about 20 full- and part-time employees, publishing three paid weekly newspapers—Island Ad-Vantages, The Weekly Packet, and Castine Patriot, with digital subscriptions available. We publish the annual Bay Community Register, the go-to area guide and phone directory for East Penobscot Bay, a summer Seasonal Guide for visitors to the area, and numerous special sections. Penobscot Bay Press has a growing book division. We are currently broadening our publishing realm.


Are you creative, do you work well with computers and are you looking for year-round employment as part of a small local business? Penobscot Bay Press, a family-owned news and community information services provider, has an immediate opening for Graphic Design and Tech Support.

The position is full-time, based in Stonington, working Monday-Thursday with seasonal adjustments to include Fridays in busy seasons. Primary job responsibilities include working with our Sales and Marketing team to brainstorm ideas and design print and web ads and marketing campaigns; page layout of our print and mobile products; design work and creation of graphics and logos for new and existing products; book design and layout; and photo editing. The position also includes 1-2 days per week as part of our Technology team, working on maintaining and improving computer systems and performing general tech support.

All candidates must be proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite of software, especially InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, and must be skilled with Macintosh computers. College education is preferred.

The ideal candidate must be creative, have a strong work ethic, be able to think outside the box, perform well under deadlines, be able to work independently, be a team player, and be able to multi-task. Experience with web and or app design including Wordpress software is a plus, but not required. The job could be tailored to include web and/or app design for the right candidate.
