COVID-19—commonly known as the “coronavirus”—is causing towns and organizations to cancel and close. Keep up with the latest news with Penobscot Bay Press, through regular posts on our Facebook page and in our COVID-19 Archive.

Witherle Memorial Library, Castine: closed until April 1, all events canceled.

Brooksville Community Center breakfast, March 21, postponed, TBD.

Castine Town Office, closed until TBD.
Blue Hill Public Library, closed March 17, 6 p.m., until April 1.
Brooksville United Methodist Church Drop-in, canceled to TBD.

Cancellations and closures as of Saturday, March 15:
Golden Sun Childcare in Blue Hill and Sargentville will close beginning Wednesday, March 18 through March 30. Regular hours Monday and Tuesday, 630 a.m.-5 p.m.
School closures:
Union 93 schools - Blue Hill Consolidated School, Brooksville Elementary School, Adams School, Penobscot Community School and Surry Elementary Schools - will be closed for two weeks starting Monday, per an announcement from Superintendent Mark Hurvitt on Saturday, March 14.
George Stevens Academy will be closed for two weeks starting Monday, per an announcement on georgestevensacademy.org.
The schools join Union 76, which announced early yesterday that Deer Isle-Stonington, Brooklin and Sedgwick schools will be closed for two weeks starting Monday.

From Maine Maritime Academy this afternoon, on Covid-19: “We have made the difficult decision to limit all non-essential visits to campus including tours, spend-a-days, overnight visits, and our Spring Open House.”
Island Community Center, Stonington, closed to the public, 3/13 at 6 p.m.
Bagaduce Music closed to the public, effective immediately
Winter Carnival, Ellsworth, 3/14.
Surry Maine 200 event, 3/14.
Family Game Night, Sunset Church, Deer Isle, 3/15, postponed.
GSA ISIP night, 3/18.
Surry School Rosanna McFarland legacy fundraiser, 3/21.
Opera House Arts, all public events.
