New and returning legislators arrived in Augusta as the 129th Maine Legislature convened its first regular session on December 5, 2018. Committee assignments, made by the Senate president and the Speaker of the House, followed. Local representatives will serve on Joint Standing Committees, with returning state senators also assigned to Standing Committees of the Senate. Local House members, all first-year legislators, did not receive assignments to the Standing House Committees.

The 19 Joint Standing Committees are filled and co-chaired by senators and representatives to the House and cover all areas of state government.
