Andrea Faurot was hired as Sedgwick Elementary School principal on May 25 by unanimous approval of the school board. (Member Elizabeth True was not present). She begins a two-year contract on July 1, with a first year salary of $79,000.

Faurot lives in Sullivan in an 1860 family home she returned to in 2014, after 13 years in North Carolina, where she started a small private school that eventually turned into the larger Sterling Montessori Academy and Charter School.

“I saw too many children falling through the cracks and wanted to help mitigate that,” she said.

Faurot has spent the last few years as an education consultant but welcomes her return as a school leader.

“I just had to decide where I was the most happy, and that was at my small school,” she said, “knowing all my students, and where they all are academically, socially and emotionally, and able to be there for the teachers. That meant a lot to me.”

Current and first-year principal John Dow announced his resignation late in March, effective June 30.
