Blue Hill’s former treasurer Jody Murphy pleaded not guilty to one count of Theft by Unauthorized Taking before the Hancock County Unified Criminal Court on August 16.
Murphy was indicted on the Class B charge August 9, accused of allegedly stealing $17,960 from town coffers between October 14, 2016 and November 16, 2017, according to court records.
Murphy began working for the town of Blue Hill in 2014 and was placed on administrative leave October 5, 2017. She officially resigned her position November 16, 2017 after an executive session with the board of selectmen. Murphy has continued to claim no wrong doing.
The case was investigated by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office which said she stole the money by taking cash from municipal and transfer station deposits and by adding unauthorized stipends to her paychecks.
Murphy will next appear in court on September 20 at 2 p.m. for a dispositional conference.
