Thieves break in, steal safe from Eggemoggin Country Store

by Anne Berleant

Thieves broke through a front window of the Eggemoggin Country Store at some point between close of business February 25 and 3:30 a.m. on February 26.

“The entire safe was taken,” said Trooper Daniel Ryan of the Maine State Police. “It’s an extensive burglary.”

The break-in was discovered by an employee who arrived to open the store that morning. Ryan received the report at 3:30 a.m.

“There’s evidence and leads and more information to be developed,” he said when contacted on February 27. “It’s ongoing.”

As of March 4, no new information had been received by state police.

Store owners Dennis and Trisha Robertson were not present the morning the break-in occurred.

“I don’t know anything at this point,” said Dennis Robertson when contacted via telephone on February 26, and he declined to make any further comment.

Anyone with information on the burglary is encouraged to call the Maine State Police, Troop J, at 866-2121, Ryan said. “All calls will be strictly confidential.”
