Gotwals Concert to feature guest organist
Katelyn Emerson, organist, will be the guest artist at the 13th annual Gotwals Concert at the Deer Isle Congregational Church, Sunday, July 6, 2014 at 7 p.m. in Deer Isle, Maine.
Katelyn Emerson, organist, will be the guest artist at the 13th annual Gotwals Concert at the Deer Isle Congregational Church, Sunday, July 6, at 7 p.m. Emerson will perform on the church’s historic 1881 Carl Barckhoff organ. The program will include works by C.P.E. Bach, J.S. Bach, Mendelssohn, Sweelinck, and Widor.
A lifelong resident of York, Emerson is in her final year at Oberlin College and Conservatory, majoring in organ performance and French with minors in music history and historical performance.
Since matriculating at Oberlin, she has received many prizes and awards, including the title of Laureate in an international organ competition in Kaliningrad, Russia, and the designation “Rising Star” in performance at the American Guild of Organists National Competition in 2012.
The concert, free and open to the public, will be followed by a reception. The Gotwals Concerts are made possible by the Vernon and Carol Gotwals Music Fund.
