Young island learners will connect to COA resources

The College of the Atlantic recently received $40,000 as part of an Island Institute Distance Learning Technology Grant that will help the school install a video conferencing system on campus that connects young learners to the campus, according to a news release from COA.

The grant will upgrade distance learning technology at the campus and allow island schools to access the college’s learning resources.

Schools connected to COA via the grant will include Isle au Haut School, George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill, Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School and many others, including schools in Alaska and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

College of the Atlantic Audio Visual Technology Specialist Zach Soares said installation will likely be done over winter break. When complete, it will allow students throughout the Gulf of Maine the opportunity to access educational resources at College of the Atlantic—attending lectures via video, for example.
