The second annual Castine Plein Air Festival will be held July 24–26. This year’s field of over 40 juried artists was selected from an overwhelming number of applicants and includes many nationally recognized artists. Among them is the artist who served as the Royal Tour Artist for the 2014 Royal Tour of Canada by HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, according to a news release from Castine Arts Association.

Activities will commence with artist registration on Thursday, July 24, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Castine Town Common on Court Street. Members of the public are encouraged to visit Castine during the three-day festival to observe the artists as they create paintings. Visitors will be able to see how each artist uses the natural light and medium of choice to produce unique portrayals of Castine’s historic sites.

The event will conclude on Saturday, July 26, with judging and an exhibition, followed by a sale of the original art created over the three-day festival. The public is invited to attend the sale and reception, hosted by the Castine Arts Association, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Maine Maritime Academy’s Harborview Room. All art created during the festival will be on display and available for purchase. Admission for the three-day event, including the sale and reception, is free to the public.
