Penobscot Bay Press: There’s an app for that!
Newspaper company launches mobile apps, digital subscription

The community newspapers of Penobscot Bay Press—Castine Patriot, The Weekly Packet, Island Ad-Vantages—have gone digital and yes, there’s an app for that.
Did you notice the front page? As Penobscot Bay Press launches its new digital newspapers, it is celebrating with a limited-time redesign. The front page title is in a tablet-style device to encourage readers to check out the new app.
Beginning February 6, your local community newspaper company will officially launch the newspaper apps allowing readers to get the papers digitally with a number of benefits not available in the print version.
Benefits include a full color version of your favorite paper and exclusive content such as hyperlinks to many extras, such as videos, photos and supporting documents—all available on the date of publication.
To kick off the app launch, Penobscot Bay Press is offering the chance to switch an active print subscription to a digital subscription. To take advantage of the offer, email your name and address to email@example.com. Any emails received after March 6, 2014, midnight EST, will not be eligible for the complimentary switch.
“This is an exciting time for Penobscot Bay Press. There has been a request for a digital paper version for some time and it is finally here! This brings our newspapers into the 21st century publishing market, where most publications thrive with an app version,” said Director of Marketing and Sales Alix Tillotson-Sarain. “With frequent delivery delays from the United States Postal Service, out of area subscribers will greatly benefit, getting the app issue just as the paper hits local store shelves.”
While the digital version is considered a different product from the print publications and access to one does not mean access to the other, Penobscot Bay Press will periodically offer deals to its customers. To learn more visit penobscotbaypress.com/
apps/ to be added to PBP’s email list to learn about discounts and specials for active subscribers.
The app is available for iPads and iPhones through Apple’s Newsstand and for other platforms (including laptops, and Android devices) by downloading the free application Magzter or visiting magzter.com and searching for the specific paper. The app is not currently available for Windows Mobile, Kindle Fire or Blackberry platforms.
Once purchased, a digital app subscription will download weekly as soon as it’s available. Single issues can be purchased, as well as three, six and twelve month subscriptions.
