Swimming PVCs—The girls placed seventh out of 14 teams competing at Husson University on February 8. Mount Desert Island won the meet, followed by Bangor and Foxcroft Academy. Freshman Eunice Yang continued her standout season with third-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke, while freshman Maya Pelletier notched a fifth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle.
The boys relay teams proved strong when they competed at Husson one day earlier. They placed 10th in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley.
Girls Basketball—After a regular season that saw them raise their ranking and surge into eighth place, notching home-court advantage for the first post-season game, the Eagles fell to #9 Washington Academy 43-32 in the prelims on February 11. The girls were never able to take the lead, despite 19 points—13 in the second half— by freshman Morgan Dauk and 7 by senior Jennifer McKenney. The girls finish 9-9 in regular season games.
Boys Basketball—A 68-56 win over Central and losses by teams ranked just above edged the boys into the last playoff berth. Scores from their February 12 prelim game against #6 Dexter were not available by press time.
Wrestling—The Eagles traveled to Bucksport for a Class C invitational meet that determined their seeding for the states. Senior Henry Bowden (132) will be third or fourth, said Coach Corey Nightingale, after a 3-1 match record at Bucksport. “He’s having a great, great year,” said Nightingale. Freshman Liza Moore (126) and sophomore Alex Overlock (195) were unable to notch a match win but will travel to the states this weekend.
