Boys soccer: The Eagles finished their regular season in stellar style with a 6-0 rout over Dexter. They are 11-2-1 going into post season, with their only losses coming in the first two games of the season. Holding the second-best record among Class C teams, they are ranked fifth in the Heal Point standings. Heal Point standings are a system that ranks all teams in a regional division by the class a team plays in, the number of games they play, what class team they compete against, and whether they win, lose or tie. This helps explain why Orono, with a lower game record of 9-2-3 is ranked second, three places ahead of GSA. The Eagles lost one and tied one match against Orono, and never faced top-ranked Madawaska.
With multiple players scoring goals in their games, a strong defense and strong save records for both goalkeepers, the team faces fourth-ranked Central (9-2-3) in the quarterfinals on October 30 at Corinth.
Girls soccer: The Lady Eagles are in seventh place at the end of regular season play, with a 7-6-1 record after posting a 2-0 win over Dexter in their final game on October 18.
The team will play 10th-ranked Bucksport at home in the post-season prelim game on October 25. With solid scoring this season from Alyssa Chesney, Morgan Dauk, Charlotte Reiter and Maddie Politte, the girls have a good shot at making the quarterfinals.
Cross country: Eagle distance runners competed in the Penobscot Valley Conference championships in Hermon on October 19, with both the girls and boys placing second behind Orono in the small school division out of eight (girls) and nine (boys) competing teams.
Standout freshman runner John Hassett placed second at 17:35.95 in the small schools division and fifth overall. Teammates Oliver Broughton (18:52.62) and Devlin Valle (18:54.70) took the seventh and eighth spots among small school runners, with Tate Yoder placing 13th (19:26.15).
On the girls side, Hanna Gutow placed fifth at 21:58.62, Rachel DesFosses seventh (22:36.90) and Bella Cimeno 12th (23:27.21) among small school runners, with Emma Larson-Whittaker, Amber Moir and Cedar Slagle placing in the top 20.
The team travels to Belfast on Saturday, October 26, for the regional championships, with the top 10 girls and boys competing.
Golf: The season ended for GSA on October 19 with seniors Alex Heilner and C.J. Chen competing in the individual state championships held in Vassalboro. Heilner shot 81 to grab the 13th spot, with Chen at 26th with a 93 out of the top 30 Class C golfers.
