Island woman buys Brooklin business, gives it new name

Sandy Buxton acquired The Cave on October 1, and under her management, this specialty food store will be called Sandy’s Provisions.

“I wanted a store that everyone in the community would enjoy—from the boat-builders wanting a hearty breakfast or lunch to the folks looking for a special treat for a relaxing night in or a hostess gift and party platter for a night out,” Buxton said in a press release.

Sandy’s Provisions will continue to offer the wide selection of cheeses and wines introduced by The Cave, and David Dillion will continue his barista magic with fresh Bucklyn Coffee from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Fresh breads and baked treats along with goodies from Maine’s finest chocolatiers will be available, and the provisions also include picnic supplies for boaters, hikers and foliage day-trippers.

As winter approaches, Buxton will offer hot foods, and she also expects to expand the gift box service and create a Party-in-a-Box with seasonal and holiday themes.

Buxton was born and raised on Deer Isle and is no stranger to entrepreneurial ventures. She opened her first business in Stonington 25 years ago and most recently offered personal training and fitness classes on Deer Isle and in Brooklin.

Sandy’s Provisions’ first Open House is planned for Friday, October 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 359-8008.
