The George Stevens Academy girls track team raced and placed at the Penobscot Valley Conference championships on May 27 at Foxcroft Academy. With 15 high school teams competing, the team came in fifth overall, with Orono placing first, followed by John Bapst. Bucksport came in seventh.

In individual races, Alice Dillon “ran a terrific race,” said Coach Erich Reed, placing first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2.34.06, and is headed for the state championships on Saturday, June 1, at Foxcroft. The girls 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams both placed third, and Sage Shaheen placed sixth in the high jump at 4-06, was the top junior varsity jumper, and is going to the states.

Not all state qualifiers are confirmed, said Reed, but Lucy Jakub will run in the 400 meter dash. On the boys side, Paul Ferreira will run the 400 meter, and Nate Cole the 800 meter. Both boys followed a solid season by placing sixth and fifth, respectively, in the PVCs. The team overall came in 10th place.
