Surry land parcel goes up for public bid
Bids will be opened August 6

Close to six acres of tax acquired property on Newbury Neck is up for bid in Surry and those wishing to bid must do so before August 6. The parcel, off Newbury Neck Road, is valued (town valuation) at $87,000 and contains a shed structure valued at $400. A minimum bid of $30,000 has been established by the board of selectmen.
The property, listed to owners Jason R and Samuel R Pratt, was recently acquired by the town due to foreclosure for non-payment of taxes in the amount of $2,517, including taxes and fees dating back to 2011.
Those wishing to bid on the property must present a bid and a certified cashier’s check in the amount of 10 percent of the bid to the town no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6. Faxed bids will not be accepted, and bids will be opened during the board of selectmen’s meeting at 7 p.m. that same evening. The selectmen have also reserved the right to reject any and all bids.
In addition, the board of selectmen are “making no statement regarding the status of the title” associated with the property, leaving the responsibility for the title search to the successful bidder., according to information found within the bid materials.
