Surry Fire Department to host open house
Surry Fire Department will hold their “Grand Open House” at the Surry Fire Station on September 21 from 12 noon to 8 p.m. The event will feature several presentations and exhibits for both children and adults.
Ellsworth Fire Department will bring its Fire Prevention House, in which the public may safely experience what it is like to try to escape a smoke-filled room. LifeFlight of Maine will land a helicopter and crew and simulate a medical emergency. The Fire Department will give rides in fire engines and rescue trucks.
Events for children will include games as well as pictures with a geared-up firefighter.
Professionals will demonstrate correct use of household fire safety and prevention items. Vendors will be on hand to sell and hold drawings for many of these items.
The Open House will also feature a silent auction with items from local businesses. The proceeds will go toward the Fire Department’s goal of presenting each student with a new home smoke detector when Surry firefighters visit area schools in October.
