Scott's Sports Spot
by Jack Scott The girls soccer team dominated Bangor Christian in their preliminary playoff game, winning 5-1. The bad news is that we lost our goalie, Shiann Closson, to a broken leg about halfway through the first half. The explanation I heard was that she dove for a ball and twisted her leg. Paige Rollins scored from Julie Hutchins shortly before that, so we led 1-0. Allyson Eaton came in to play goal and did a superb job. BC did score with 15 minutes left in the first half, but Holli Boyce scored a huge goal a minute later assisted by Paige Rollins to change the momentum and put us back on top. Though we controlled the play, we didn’t score again until halfway through the second half when Chelsea Brown drove home a penalty kick. Paige Rollins scored again, assisted by Natalie Eaton. Svenja Griesbach scored with a minute left assisted by Kristyn Davis. Overall, it was a rough game with several of our players being knocked down and having to leave the field. Luckily they were able to get back in the game, but I’ll bet they were sore the next day. In the end, our passing and ball control gave us the upper hand and the scored showed it. The defense was solid, turning the ball back to the offense. Anchored by seniors Michala Brown and Sara Burgess, we protected the goal well. Allyson Eaton did a good job in goal, being brought off the front line. We played a solid game all around to dominate play. On Tuesday, October 23 the girls faced Easton in the Eastern Maine quarterfinals. The team lost 3-1, ending the season. A full recap of the game and season will be available in next week’s Post Season Scrapbook. |
