News Feature
by Faith DeAmbrose Madeleine Gay Leach has withdrawn from the race for the House of Representatives seat in District 37. Citing health reasons, Leach officially withdrew her candidacy with the secretary of state’s office on July 6, ahead of the July 9 deadline that allows the Republican Party to replace her with another candidate if it chooses. Under state law, if candidates withdraw before July 9, their party can replace them with another candidate to run in the November general election. The filing for a replacement candidate must be done by 5 p.m. on July 23. Leach was slated to run against Brooksville Democrat and incumbent Ralph Chapman in November. According to Hancock County Republican Committee Chairman Eric White the Republican Party is actively seeking a replacement candidate and has formed a search committee, which is being headed up by state Senator Richard Rosen of Bucksport. |
