by Jonathan Thomas The recently erected cell phone tower on the Sunset Crossroad in Deer Isle will be activated sometime in March, according to U.S. Cellular’s project manager Richard Houde. The permit application filed with the town last September estimated a July 2012 completion date. The 180-foot tower “is designed to provide coverage in Sunset and Deer Isle, and along Route 15,” Houde wrote in an e-mail to Island Ad-Vantages. “There will be coverage in downtown Stonington, but the terrain for the downtown area drops down, which can affect the coverage. … However, the majority of the downtown area will have coverage.” When asked about plans for any additional towers that would provide more complete coverage, Houde replied, “Right now there are no plans in 2012 to bring an additional tower to the area.” Houde said that although there is provision for other companies to use the tower, U.S. Cellular has not received any requests from other carriers to co-locate on it. |
