The GSA wrestling team fought hard in the Penobscot Valley Conference tournament held on February 4, at Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln, where junior and third-year wrestler Jordan Lord reached his 100th win, a milestone for wrestlers.
Lord, battling in the 132-pound weight class, won his first three matches, all by pin, over Corey Worcester, of Lee Academy, Alvan Wheeler, of Bucksport, and Wyatt Tash, of Mattanawcook Academy, making it to the final competition round. There Lord was pinned by Trevor Weymouth, of Foxcroft Academy.
Third-year wrestler Alex Turanski, a junior, fought through illness and a shoulder injury to win his first match by pin over Kimberly Riccardi, of Fort Kent, and his third match, 8-3, against Lucas Ashmore, of Bucksport. He fell to Ellsworth’s Zach Harris, 15-10, in his second match, and to Isaac Whittemore, of Foxcroft Academy, in his fourth and final match. Turanksi competed in the 126-pound weight class.
Tim Allen, also a junior, battling in the 220-pound weight class, was pinned in his first match by Adam Ranco, of Mount Desert Island, and in his second, by Justin Ringuette, of Penobscot Valley High School.
There was an assembly at GSA on Wednesday, February 7, to honor Lord’s 100th win.
