August named “Maine Lobster Month”

Governor Paul LePage signed a proclamation declaring August “Maine Lobster Month.” As a result of Maine’s successful lobster conservation effort, the state has hit record harvest levels for the last three years, according to a news release. The governor’s proclamation will help kick-off a celebration of lobster and the Maine Lobster Promotion Council’s Lobster Lovers campaign. The campaign includes promotions with retailers, restaurants and members of the hospitality industry in Maine and New England.

“The Lobster industry’s bountiful harvest is certainly worth celebrating and encouraging everyone to enjoy this wonderful delicacy throughout the month of August and year-round,” said Patrick Keliher, Commissioner of the Maine Department of Marine Resources. “We continue to implement and promote conservation practices that will keep this industry strong.”
