Brooksville Elementary School - Back to school information

Administration
The school’s office is open each week day from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Questions may be addressed to Principal Corinne Pert, ccpert@brooksvilleschool.org, or Secretary Mary Ellen Andrews by calling the school at 326-8500. School information, including newsletters and meal menus, can also be found on the school website at brooksvilleschool.org.

School begins at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4. Dismissal time is 2 p.m. when the first buses leave the school. The school day will remain the same as last year.

Preschool classes will be held on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays this year from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (three full days a week). The preschoolers may ride the bus to school. Children must be 4 years old on or before October 15, 2012. Students may participate in the school breakfast and lunch program or bring a bag lunch. Parents are requested to contact the school if interested in registering their child, 326-8500.

Meals
Meals will begin the first week of school. Student meal prices have been set. Breakfast will be $1 full price, with no charge for reduced, and $1.75 for adults. Lunch will also be served the first day of school with student prices set at $2.55 full price, $.40 reduced, and $6.75 for adults. Milk will be $.30 for Pre-K-8. Information on free and reduced meals will be sent home with students the first day of school.

New staff
BES welcomes two new faculty members this fall. Ruth Billings will teach grades 7/8 English language arts and social studies. With a graduate degree in liberal studies from Dartmouth College and a passion for language and writing, Billings has taught middle school through college in private and public schools in various parts of the country.

Martha Jordan, Harborside, will provide guidance services at BES. After earning her BSW and MSW from Rhode Island College, she had a private practice in Rhode Island, served as Director of Social Work at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and also as an adjunct professor at Rhode Island College before moving to Maine. She recently retired as Director of Students Services at Deer Isle Stonington High School.

Bus information
Parents will be notified of any changes before school starts.

All elementary students will be transported to their designated stop on their scheduled bus unless a note or call has been made to the school (326-8500) by a parent of the child.

Regarding high school students: We will require a call from a high school student’s parent before a child may go to another home. Guests of high school students need special permission also by phone in order to ride the Brooksville bus. Parents need to call the Brooksville Elementary School to give permission, 326-8500.

High school busing will begin on Tuesday, September 4.

All bus routes will be reviewed at the October School Committee meeting.

After school program

This year Brooksville Elementary will again offer after school academic support to students on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays beginning on September 11. Busing will be provided.
