Meals
School lunch prices for students are up this year, at $2.55. Reduced lunch is 40¢ and extra milk is 30¢. The price of breakfast remains 75¢. Adult lunch is $5, breakfast is $1.

The lunch menu for the week of September 4-7 is as follows: Tuesday: Chicken nuggets, corn, pineapple, tossed salad, brown rice, milk. Wednesday: Spaghetti w/meat sauce, broccoli, salad, peaches, applesauce, milk. Thursday: Baked beans, hot dog, garden salad, pears, graham cracker, milk. Friday: Fish sticks, mashed potatoes, carrots, tossed salad, apple, milk.

New Staff
The school has moved a few teachers around this year. Anita Black, who taught 6th grade for several years, will be teaching 7th and 8th grade science. She has been working with the University of Maine Physical Sciences Partnership. Replacing her in 6th grade will be Katie Danielson, a special education teacher at BHCS, who has an M.Ed. in special education and regular education through the ETEP program at the University of Southern Maine.

New course offerings
There is a new math program emerging at BHCS this year for students in grades K-8. Math in Focus is based on the Singapore math model and is aligned with the Common Core Standards. Several “Parent University” nights will help familiarize parents with the new program.

Buses
Bus A: Starting at 6:55 a.m. Sis Porter Road - back to the Mines Road (7:05) at the Sedgwick line, picking up both sides of the Mines Road to South Street intersection. Turn right on South Street (7:15) (Rte. 175 & 172) picking up South Street to Salt Pond Road (Rte. 172) to the Sedgwick line, back to Falls Bridge Road intersection. Turn right onto Falls Bridge Road (Rte. 175) picking up to Brooklin line (7:20) and back to South Street. Back down South Street to Beech Hill Road, picking up Beech Hill Road to intersection of Union Street (7:35) on to school at 7:40. Afternoon: leaving school at 2:40 p.m. Beech Hill Road, Mines Road, South Street, Salt Pond Road, Falls Bridge Road.

Bus B: Starting at 7 a.m. at Lil Bears Den on the Ellsworth Road, picking up Ellsworth Road to Turkey Farm Road (7:10) and back to Ellsworth Road to Mountain Road (7:20). Turning right onto Pleasant Street and picking up to Range Road through to Penobscot end (7:30) turning left back down Pleasant Street and arriving at school at 7:40. Afternoon: leaving school at 2:40. Pleasant Street out to Range Road and back to Pleasant Street to Mountain Road out to Turkey Farm and on to Surry line.

Bus C: Starting at 7:05 a.m. at Surry Line on Morgan Bay Road to the Curtis Cove Road (7:15), picking up Curtis Cove Road and back to East Blue Hill Road. (7:35) Picking up Greene’s Hill on the right hand side to the fairgrounds, turning around and back down Greene’s Hill to the Co-op. Continue on to Pleasant Street and picking up Terrace Apartments, arriving at school at 7:45. Afternoon: leaving school at 2:40. Terrace Apt. to Greene’s Hill and back to East Blue Hill Road, Curtis Cove, Morgan Bay.

Bus D: Starting at 7 a.m. at Penobscot line on Pleasant Street, picking up Pleasant Street to Hinckley Ridge intersection, picking up Hinckley Ridge (7:15) to Kingdom Road (7:25) and back to Hinckley Ridge; picking up Union Street (7:35) arriving at school at 7:40. Afternoon: leaving school at 2:40. Union Street to Kingdom Road, Hinckley Ridge, Pleasant Street to Penobscot Line, Sis Porter Road.

Snapshot
The total budget is $4,521,159. There are 31 full-time teachers and 12 support staff. The total student population is 232, with two classrooms per grade.
