Golfers know that even the most seasoned golfing veteran needs an educated eye watching his swing every once and awhile. Shaun Webb has been working to teach the finer points of the golf swing and the game for over nine years.
Growing up in Stonington, Webb was introduced to golf by his father when he was 5, and grew up competing against his older brother Cory at the Island Country Club.
After a successful high school and amateur career, a back injury in college restricted his playing career as a professional, so he turned to coaching and teaching and quickly found he had a passion for that side of the game. Even at a young age, he developed an eye for helping his fellow golfers perfect their swing.
Having improved his own game under the watchful eye of the best instructors in the industry, including top 10 ranked in the world David Leadbetter, Hank Haney, Mike Bender, and Brian Mogg, it was a natural fit for him to take what he had learned and share it with golfers.
In 2003 he opened the Shaun Webb Golf Academy and began teaching at the Island Country Club. With very little golf being played in Maine in the winter, he took to teaching in Florida during the cold months.
Over the past nine years of teaching, Shaun has devoted himself to understanding the function of the body and how it relates to the golf swing. This led him to become a certified instructor in K-Vest 3D bio-mechanics analysis, a software imaging system that measures the golf swing and movement of the body in minute detail, and also as a Titleist Performance Institute Golf Instructor.
The education he has received from these organizations put him in an elite group of instructors that are at the cutting edge of teaching the game, and he is the only instructor in the state of Maine with these credentials
This past winter, because of his experience with K-Vest and TPI, Webb was offered a unique opportunity to work for one of the top golf academies in the world at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy. Here Webb was hired as the director of biomech-anics to work with elite juniors and top professional golfers in the world.
Through his association with the Gilchrist Academy, Webb has worked numerous times with the number 1 women’s player in the world Yani Tseng, PGA tour player Peter Hanson who finished third in this years Masters tournament, as well as more than 20 PGA and LPGA tour players.
In addition, several of the junior players that Webb coaches are ranked nationally and have won tournaments at the national junior level (American Junior Golf Association), and many he has worked with have received full golf scholarships to Division 1 universities.
Over his professional career he has earned the following credentials:
• PGA Professional
• Titleist Performance Institute Level 2 Golf Instructor
• Titleist Performance Institute Golf Fitness certified
• K-Vest Level 2 Bio-Mechanics Instructor
• Hank Haney Certified Golf Instructor
Using V1 Golf video analysis software and other teaching technology along with his experienced eye to give each golfer a simple plan for improvement, Webb feels he can use his knowledge to help any golfer, no matter what their level of skill. By improving on the four aspects of your game, namely the technical, physical, course strategy, and mental, his goal is to work as a teacher and a coach to help you be more consistent and enjoy the game.
Webb currently teaches in July and August every week at the Island Country Club in Deer Isle, Blue Hill Country Club, the driving range at Pine Ridge in Sedgwick, and the Trenton Golf Club. To contact him to schedule a lesson, call 321-946-7237 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
