DIS Golf team wins first two matches

The fall sports season is upon us and the golf team has already played a couple of matches. We beat George Stevens at home in a close match 175-178. Sam Grindle was medalist with an even par 34, Connor Morey 45, Drew Siebert 47, and Alec Eaton 49. Playing better, we easily beat Searsport at home 164-209. Sam Grindle was medalist again with a 35, Connor Morey 39, Nick Eaton 44, and Drew Siebert 46.

The girls soccer team lost to Schenck 5-1 in their opener. The game was not as one sided as the score would indicate. We had opportunities, bounced off the cross bars, missed a penalty kick, that would have given us some momentum and fired us up. We needed this game experience to develop our offensive flow. Janelle Ciomei scored our only goal, assisted by Paige Rollins. We made several good runs, and Schenck made 10 saves on our 13 shots. Shiann Closson worked hard, saving 14 of their 25 shots. A game we can build on as we find our place.

The boys suffered a similar fate, losing to Schenck 6-1. Coach Bennett Morey also felt we played better than the score indicated. We suffered two penalty shots to put us in a hole, but we played with good energy the whole game. Kevin Melanio scored our only goal, assisted by Tyler Bartlett. Schenck saved 8 of our 10 shots and Hayden Torrey saved 20 of their 28 shots. We are a team that is trying to come together and we should improve quickly as we have a lot of games in the next couple of weeks.

Both soccer teams need to get on the field in game situations to work out their teamwork. The girls have more experience working together, but it is getting the offense to work that is the challenge for each team.
