Monalee Smith wins “Blueberry Queen title
The Weekly Packet, Celebrating our 50th year

Miss Monalee Smith, 21, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Perry E. Smith, Brooksville, was crowned Maine Blueberry Queen at the Union Fair here last Friday.

Miss Smith, studying for a B.S. degree in nursing at Boston University, was sponsored by the E.S. Herrick Company, Brooksville.

Winning out over a field of 13 candidates, Miss Smith received a trophy, $100 and the right to compete for the Miss Maine Vacationland contest at the Skowhegan State Fair next year.

Also participating in the contest was Karyl Ricker, Blue Hill, sponsored by G.M. Allen and Son, Sedgwick blueberry processors.

It took 20 holes but LeVeque got it

BLUE HILL—Twenty holes were played before winners were decided at the Blue Hill Country Club’s annual golf championship match cup competition Friday. Fred LeVeque finally came out on top.

Mrs. William Lyon was second.

Winner of the second flight was Jack Semler. Dindy Royster won the third flight.

Thirty took part in the tournament.

Andrews Wanning was awarded the permanent Strobel Cup in a competition of 20 entries Thursday.
