Wass meets with Legion to plan bicentennial
The Weekly Packet, Celebrating our 50th year

Plans for next year’s bicentennial of Blue Hill, the participation by the American Legion, were discussed at a meeting of the Blue Hill post and auxiliary in the post home here Monday night.

Gerald Wass, chairman of the bicentennial steering committee, was guest speaker. He explained some the plans already made, and heard suggestions on how the legion could assist in the program.

Wass said he hoped every organization in town would send two or more representatives to the next meeting of the bicentennial committee in the Blue Hill Branch conference room at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 24.

SUGGESTIONS MADE at Monday night’s meeting included the possibility of the Legion sponsoring a horse and buggy float, holding a supper to help raise funds, and holding a short service for local veterans who have died in the armed forces.

For the celebration as a whole, it was suggested the parade should include antique cars, Boy and Girl Scouts, and that funds might be raised by a series of suppers sponsored by different organizations during the winter.

The possibility of issuing bicentennial coins stamps or plates for sale was also discussed.
