Area high school net teams get off to season play
The Weekly Packet, Celebrating our 50th year

Another PACKET area team kicked off its regular basketball season this week when defending state Class S champion Stonington dumped St. Martin de Tour of East Millinocket 71-60 on the Stonington floor Monday.

Last week, Deer Isle started its season with a 69-58 victory over Cherryfield, and Blue Hill gets into action tomorrow night, traveling to Hermon.

All three local teams previewed the season last Friday when they participated in the Round Robin at Ellsworth. Blue Hill defeated Pemetic 17-14 in the first quarter of play, then fell to Stonington 16-9 in the second. Stonington downed Pemetic 15-13 in its second exhibition quarter.

Deer Isle handily defeated Mt. Desert 14-8, then fell to Ellsworth 12-4.

Round Robin fans saw another tough, scrappy Stonington five playing an individual brand of ball. Blue Hill has the scrap, but lacks the height while Deer Isle has height but little polish.

The week’s net schedule: Blue Hill at Hermon tomorrow, and Deer Isle hosts Lubec Saturday and Sumner Tuesday, both on the Stonington floor…
