DIS school board to hold hearing
The Deer Isle-Stonington School Board will host a hearing on Monday, January 10, at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria to give students, parents, and citizens an opportunity to comment on educational priorities, as the superintendent and principals begin drafting a budget for the 2011-12 school year.
School board member Skip Greenlaw suggested that the board listen to comments from the public after he received comments from several graduates and parents that students did not get sufficient instruction in writing preparation for college. One parent, Greenlaw noted, complained about the math curriculum, saying that she had to school her four children in math at home.
