Valuation increase cuts rate
The Weekly Packet, Celebrating our 50th year
An across-the-board four-time increase in assessed valuation for Sedgwick has meant a drop in the tax rate for that town this year.
First selectman Edgar Torrey said this year’s rate is 32 mills as compared to last year’s 144.
The rate showed another drop, too, as a straight one-fourth of the 144 mills would have resulted in a 36 mill rate. But $19,000 in new assessments, coupled with a $5,000 reduction in town appropriations enabled selectmen to shave another four mills off the rate.
New assessed valuation is $1,295,220 as compared to last year’s $318,035.
This year there are 147 polls as compared to last year’s 149.
The 32 mill rate, coupled with existing overlay, will raise $41,888.04.
