Mrs. Vaughan seeks post
The Weekly Packet, Celebrating our 50th year

Mrs. J. Hallowell (Margaret) Vaughan, Harborside, has announced her candidacy for third selectman of Brooksville. She is running for the post to be vacated by Alton Varnum who is running for town Tax Collector.

Mrs. Vaughan, in announcing her candidacy, said she felt there were some items in town administration that could best be handled by a woman.

The need to discuss problems of an intimate, personal nature, she said, was one place where a woman could do a more sympathetic job than a man. Also, she said, she felt women should take a more active part in government affairs.

It is Mrs. Vaughan’s second attempt to gain a public office, having run for the School Committee once in the past.

Born in Birmingham, England, Mrs. Vaughan is a naturalized citizen. She started living summers in Brooksville 20 years ago, and the Vaughans made Brooksville their permanent home 10 years ago.
