Island Independence Day 2012
Smiles abounded despite dreary weather for the annual Independence Day Parade through Deer Isle Village. This year’s theme was “100 years,” in honor of the Opera House building’s centennial. Grand Marshal Mary Cousins was the star of the parade, accompanied by many floats and walkers marking 100th anniversaries—from the Oreo cookie to Fenway Park to the sinking of the Titanic. Suzy Shepard served as master of ceremonies, and the entire parade was dedicated in memory of Bob Haskell, who led the town band for many years on July 4. Photos by Jessica Brophy
