GSA track teams mine gold at PVC meet

GSA took home four gold medals at the PVC track and field championships, and “placed well” overall, coach Erich Reed said. The boys team took fourth and the girls sixth out of 15 participating small school teams. From left, Ben Plohr, who won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.55; Liana Arquette won the shot put gold with 31’5” (after setting a school record last week at Bucksport); and River Plouffe Vogel, who nabbed two gold medals in the 1600 meter race (4:39.24) and the 800 meter (2.05.86). Orono’s boys and girls teams won the event. The Eagles next compete at the state championships on June 2 in Augusta.

Swag for GSA

The GSA women turned in an impressive showing at the Hereshoff Trophy race on May 26, demonstrating a real team effort—on a short schedule, with new boat match-ups, different boats (FJ’s instead of 420’s) and challenging light, shifting wind conditions. Koos and Slagle came within one point of besting the entire “A” fleet, while Page and Lameyer sailed the “B” boat with speed and smarts, displaying the determination the whole team is recognized for. In front, from left, Clover Slagle and Cedar Slagle; and rear, from left,Tess Lameyer, Cecily Page, Aiden Ford and Courtney Koos.
